Registration for WSMRF is now open! The deadline for EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION is JANUARY 13, 2012.
Congratulations on your invitation to present at the Western Regional Meetings in Carmel/Monterey. We are delighted to offer the convenience of on-line registration again this year. All students and residents must pre-register for the conference in order to participate. Have your credit card handy. You will receive an instant, printable receipt. All of the activities listed where a meal is mentioned are included in your registration fee. The Journal of Investigative Medicine is included in your registration fee. Remember to pick one up when you check in with us at the Sunset Center in Carmel.

UPLOAD YOUR PowerPoint Presentation
UPLOADING PRESENTATIONS -- ***OPTIONAL***
You have the option of uploading your talk or bringing it with you. If you decide to upload it, you must upload the presentation by ****5pm on January 20, 2012.**
Directions for uploading your presentation are as follows:
Upload your PowerPoint presentation by going to https://www.yousendit.com/ . This is a completely free service and will allow you to send files up to 100MB. Enter your e-mail address in the “From” field and enter afmr@meetingtomorrow.com in the “To” field. Please then click on “Select File” and select the file from your computer. There is no need to include a “Subject” or a “Message.” You can click on the “Preview” to see a snapshot of your message. After entering the above information and uploading your file, please click “Send It”. After the file is sent, a pop-up box reading “Do you want to be notified when your file is downloaded?” will come up. Please feel free to click “No Thanks.” If you hit “No Thanks” you will still get a delivery confirmation sent to your email address.
Again, this upload is OPTIONAL. If you do not opt to upload your presentation, please bring it with you on a USB memory stick / thumb drive. Even if your presentation is pre-loaded, we highly recommend bringing it on a thumb drive as well, in case you’ve made any last minute changes or there are any compatibility issues.
If your presentation has any video or references other files, including websites, please bring a copy of the video, file or image on the thumb drive as backup.
We recommend meeting with an AV Technician **1 day prior** to your presentation to test your upload and/or removable disc/drive. Please label your electronic file & memory stick/ thumb drive with the following information:

The AV staff will proof your file and email to confirm that they have received it.
The equipment available will be PC computers loaded with Power Point 2007. If your presentation has been prepared on a Macintosh, make sure you load figures/pictures in the zipped file so that it will be compatible with PC. Once loaded, the technician will transfer the presentation to the appropriate machine. **If you created your presentation on a Mac, be sure to bring a copy on a USB thumb drive, as there can sometimes be slight variations in how your presentation looks on each machine. You’ll be able to make any edits you like in the AV room on-site.**

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS FOR STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS
If you are a student or resident, hotel accommodations will be at the Monterey Beach Hotel. You must contact the hotel directly to make reservations BY JANUARY 4. Go to http://www.montereybeachresort.com, select GROUP RESERVATIONS, using GROUP CODE 25G and “Western Student Medical Research Forum” in all instances to receive the group rate.
To guarantee a room, ALL reservations MUST be received by January 4, 2012. The earlier you make a reservation and ask for an ocean-side room, the more likely you are to get one.
TRANSPORTATION
If you plan to fly to the meeting, you may wish to check out www.studentuniverse.com for deeply discounted airfares. Ticket purchases on this site are limited to students (residents included), and faculty. The airport code for Monterey is MRY. The airport code for San Jose is SJC. For those of you who will fly into San Jose, it takes about 1 1/2 hours to make the drive to Monterey. Here is a link to a reasonable shuttle service and their schedules http://www.montereyairbus.com/. (The charge is approximately $35 each way and reservations are strongly suggested.) For those of you plan to drive, parking at the Monterey Beach Hotel is free with validation.

The following is a list of conference activities that you are encouraged to attend:
THURSDAY
"Posters, Pizza, and Beer Session," featuring 20 student subspecialty award-winning posters. This will be held on Thursday evening January 26th, 5:30-7:00 p.m. Many faculty members from the various participating medical societies also attend this event. Your guests are welcome to attend this activity at no additional charge.
FRIDAY
You are invited to select one breakfast in our "Breakfast with the Investigator Series" on Friday, OR Saturday morning. There are six topics each day from which you may select the one you will attend. Please select only one of them on Friday, OR Saturday (when prompted in the registration process below). Seating for each of the six options is limited to twelve students or residents only.
SATURDAY
WSMRF check in will be set up in the Entry Lobby at the Sunset Center from 8a.m. - 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 28th.
The Twelfth Annual Residents' Luncheon chaired will host a Residency Application Panel for Medical Students, Saturday, January 28th, 12:30- 1:30 p.m., Carpenter Hall, Sunset Center in Carmel. Students will have the rare opportunity to meet current residents in the Western Region and get answers to those questions you all have.
Student Awards Banquet Saturday January 28th 6:30-8:00 p.m., Points Ballroom, Monterey Beach Hotel. We are honored to have Dr. Ellen Cosgrove deliver our keynote address. Dr. Cosgrove is the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at University of Washington School of Medicine. There will be free shuttle service to/from the Monterey Beach Hotel to the Sunset Center in Carmel.
To help you get your bearings, here is a simple map of down town Carmel-by-the Sea. (Please note that Carmel is a small, quaint seaside town. There are no addresses on houses, buildings, or street signs and they like it that way.) Click on map.
